HURT BUILDING RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL TOBY AWARD
Harbor Group International’s historic Atlanta property wins the final stage of Building of the Year competition
The Hurt Building, downtown Atlanta’s historic 18-story office building, owned by an affiliate of Harbor Group International (HGI), earned “The Office Building of the Year (TOBY)” award at an international level from BOMA, an organization of building owners and managers.
BOMA International announced the winners at its North American Commercial Real Estate Congress and Office Building Show in New York.
The Hurt Building, constructed in 1913, won in the historic building category. HGI purchased the property in April 2006.
“Not only is this a win for all of the people who make the Hurt Building a great place to work while preserving its historic character, it’s also a victory for downtown Atlanta, which deserves recognition as a historic district,” said Shannon Westberg, General Manager of The Hurt Building. “Congratulations to all of our staff and to our tenants for making The Hurt Building number one.”
The Hurt Building is an 18-story, 436,000 square foot office tower located in the Central Business District of downtown Atlanta. The property’s historic Rotunda was recently renovated with a dramatic restoration of the intricate domed ceiling and renovation of its original marble staircase and floors.
The property earned the award by meeting high standards related to energy efficiency, tenant satisfaction, community service, excellent employee relations, and proactive management.
Judging for the award was based on community impact, tenant/employee relations programs, energy management systems, accessibility for disabled people, emergency evacuation procedures, building personnel training programs and overall quality indicators. A team of expert industry professionals also conducted a comprehensive building inspection.
The "TOBY" Award is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in office buildings and awarding excellence in office building management. The Hurt Building’s competitors included properties from New York, Colorado, Alaska, and Canada.
The Hurt Building is owned by an affiliate of Harbor Group International, LLC. HGI holds an investment portfolio in excess of $2 billion, including over 6 million square feet of office space throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, and more than 12,000 apartment units in the U.S. The Company maintains offices in Norfolk, New York, Chicago, London, and Tel Aviv.
